The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) said widespread rainfall is expected across Afghanistan for a fourth consecutive week, through Sunday, April 5.
According to the organization, heavier rainfall is likely in parts of the central, eastern, and south-eastern provinces.
The report added that the rainfall increases the risk of flash floods.
The FAO said, “Ongoing precipitation in recent weeks has significantly improved soil moisture conditions across much of Afghanistan.” The organization added that this has benefited rainfed agriculture.
Mohammad Yousuf Hamad, spokesperson for the Taliban-controlled Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority, had earlier said that recent rains have killed at least 17 people and injured 24 others across the country.
