Mujib-ur-Rahman Omar Akhundzada, Deputy Minister of Water and Energy of the Taliban, emphasized the importance of “fair” water distribution between Afghanistan and Central Asian countries at the “Tashkent Water Week” conference.
In his speech at the event, he also addressed the prevention of damage to the banks of the Amu River, stating that the Taliban is committed to the rights of Afghanistan’s neighboring countries in water management.
Akhundzada also stressed strengthening water diplomacy, the use of modern technologies in water management, and the need for joint cooperation to address the impacts of climate change.
The Taliban Ministry of Water and Energy said he met Uzbekistan’s Minister of Water, Shavkat Khamraev, on the sidelines of the event and discussed expanding cooperation in the water sector.
The ministry added that the participation of the group’s representative in the “Tashkent Water Week” is an important step that could open a new chapter of cooperation.
This comes as the Taliban is barred from participating in international conferences due to a lack of international recognition.
