The Freedom Front released a report indicating that the Taliban killed 131 former military personnel across 29 provinces in Afghanistan in 2025.
The Freedom Front reported that, during the same period, the Taliban also detained, tortured, and in some cases made 131 former military personnel disappear.
The group described these actions as “covert revenge under the guise of general amnesty” and stated that the Taliban’s intelligence apparatus intensified “silent purge operations, killings, and detentions” as the expulsion of former soldiers from Iran escalated.
The Freedom Front emphasized that the figures of former military personnel killed by the Taliban were confirmed by the victims’ families before being reported.
According to the report, former army generals believe that these numbers represent only a portion of the targeted killings, as many incidents of killings and detentions remain unreported due to fear of Taliban intelligence reprisals and are kept hidden by families and associates.
The Freedom Front documented a list of former military personnel killed in 2025, noting that most deaths occurred in Kabul, Parwan, and Badakhshan provinces.
