The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) strongly condemned the armed attacks by ‘criminal groups’ from Afghanistan into Tajikistan in a statement.
The organization emphasized that Afghanistan’s soil should not be used to create threats against the security of neighboring countries and the region.
The Shanghai Cooperation Organization said it supports Tajikistan’s efforts to ensure security and stability in the border areas with Afghanistan.
The statement reads: ‘The Shanghai Cooperation Organization expresses its deepest condolences to the families of the victims.’
According to the statement, the attacks on November 26th on Tajik soil resulted in human casualties and the destruction of infrastructure.
The Taliban, Tajikistan, Pakistan, and China have condemned the attack separately so far.
In these two attacks, 5 Chinese citizens were killed and 5 others were wounded. Media outlets close to the Taliban reported that the group has arrested two individuals in Badakhshan in connection with these attacks.
The Taliban identified certain circles as responsible for the incident, claiming they are trying to create distrust among the countries of the region.
The group said it would fully cooperate with Dushanbe to identify the perpetrators of the attacks on Tajikistan.
Amir Khan Muttaqi told Sirajuddin Muhriddin, the Foreign Minister of Tajikistan, in a phone call that ‘joint action against destructive elements is the need of the hour.’
According to the statement, Muttaqi said that the Taliban and Tajikistan had recently established an atmosphere of trust for political, economic, and security cooperation, but some circles do not want this process and are seeking to undermine it.
China, Russia, India, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan are official member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Afghanistan, Iran, Belarus, and Mongolia are observer members of the organization.
