The Taliban’s High Commission for Refugee Affairs announced that the Pakistani government deported 4,540 Afghan refugees yesterday (Tuesday, November 25).

These individuals returned to Afghanistan through two border crossings along the Durand Line — Spin Boldak and Torkham.

Taliban statistics show that since November 1, a total of 222,094 Afghan refugees have been forcibly returned from Pakistan.

After the Taliban seized power in Afghanistan, large numbers of people migrated to neighboring countries and beyond. A significant portion of these individuals fled out of fear of Taliban reprisals.

Pakistan is now vigorously pursuing the deportation of Afghan refugees, without taking into account the potential dangers they may face upon return.

The United Nations and its experts have repeatedly reported that the Taliban detain and torture some returnees.

According to the UN, more than 4.5 million Afghan migrants have returned from Iran and Pakistan over the past two years.
