In today’s third-place match held in the state of Paraná, goalkeeper Mohammad Jawad Safari became the hero of the game, scoring a spectacular late goal to force a penalty shootout, where Afghanistan ultimately defeated Greenland 4–2.
The tense match ended scoreless in the first half. Early in the second half, Afghanistan opened the scoring with a precise finish, but Greenland quickly turned the game around with two goals of their own.
In the final critical moments, goalkeeper Safari came on for Alireza Jafari and joined the attack. With a powerful, unstoppable strike, he netted the equalizer and kept Afghanistan’s hopes alive.
The match went to penalties, where Safari’s brilliance continued. Not only did he lift the team’s morale, but with a flawless performance he guided Afghanistan to a 4–2 victory, securing the bronze medal at the Selesão Intercontinental Cup.
