The Turkish Coast Guard Command has announced that a speedboat carrying Afghan migrants capsized today in the Aegean Sea, killing 19 people, including a baby.
According to the command, the vessel ignored repeated warnings to stop and instead attempted to flee at high speed.
The boat eventually overturned, while at least 20 passengers were rescued.
Search and rescue teams are still looking for one missing person.
Turkish officials stressed that all passengers on board were from Afghanistan.
According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), 1,492 Afghan migrants died on migration routes around the world in 2025.
