The National Statistics and Information Authority under Taliban control has announced that from March 2025, a total of 16,276 foreign nationals, including 728 women, traveled to Afghanistan.
According to a statement from the authority, during the same year, another 12,198 foreign nationals, including 158 women, left the country.
The statement added that 16,090 of the arrivals entered Afghanistan via land routes, while 182 others entered through air borders. Most of them (10,450 people) traveled to the country through the Nimroz crossing.
The Taliban-run National Statistics and Information Authority claimed that 2,369 individuals entered Afghanistan to visit historical and archaeological sites, 115 for educational purposes, and the remaining 13,792 for work.
The Taliban’s claim that thousands of foreign nationals have traveled to Afghanistan for work comes as the country’s own population faces economic hardship, with unemployment having sharply increased since the group returned to power.
