Zabiullah Mujahid, spokesperson for the Taliban, described the remarks of Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, spokesperson for the Pakistani military, as “irresponsible and provocative” and strongly condemned them.

Mujahid stated that Chaudhry’s comments regarding Afghanistan’s “governmental and social structure” have no connection to reality and are in clear contradiction to the stance of a “responsible military.”

At today’s press briefing, Chaudhry did not recognize the Taliban as the legitimate “government” and claimed that Afghanistan has become an operational base for terrorist groups. He also commented on Afghanistan’s demographics, saying that 42 percent of the population are Pashtun, with the remainder belonging to other ethnic groups.

In a statement, Mujahid said: “The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan… calls on the relevant Pakistani authorities to focus on resolving their domestic problems instead of stepping outside official positions and fueling illogical propaganda against Afghanistan.”

He described Afghanistan as an independent and stable country with “a strong security structure and a competent leadership that exercises full sovereignty over its entire territory.”

The Taliban spokesperson warned that commenting on Afghanistan’s internal affairs and using threatening language is “unacceptable to the people of Afghanistan.”
