{"id":39404,"date":"2026-04-21T08:16:20","date_gmt":"2026-04-21T03:46:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/deeyartelevision.com\/en\/?p=39404"},"modified":"2026-04-21T08:16:22","modified_gmt":"2026-04-21T03:46:22","slug":"us-media-muttasim-agha-jan-detained-on-taliban-leaders-orders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/deeyartelevision.com\/en\/39404\/","title":{"rendered":"US Media: Muttasim Agha Jan Detained on Taliban Leader\u2019s Orders"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The U.S. outlet The Media Line, citing a Taliban Interior Ministry official, reported that Muttasim Agha Jan, a founding member of the Taliban and its former finance minister, has been detained on the orders of Hibatullah Akhundzada.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the report, Agha Jan was detained over efforts to form a joint council of religious scholars from Afghanistan and Pakistan aimed at fostering lasting peace between the Taliban and Islamabad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The source said he was pursuing an initiative that conflicted with Akhundzada\u2019s policies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The report added that Agha Jan had also been pressing senior Taliban officials to take decisive action against Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Media Line said he was detained in Kandahar by a special intelligence unit responsible for the security of Taliban leader Hibatullah Akhundzada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The U.S. outlet described his detention as indicative of internal divisions within the Taliban leadership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Agha Jan was a close associate of Mullah Mohammad Omar, the Taliban\u2019s founder, and served as the group\u2019s finance minister before the September 11 attacks. He was also a key member of the Quetta Shura.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A source from the Taliban Interior Ministry told The Media Line that he was also a strong critic of the Taliban\u2019s so-called \u201chostage diplomacy,\u201d a policy under which the group is accused of detaining foreign nationals to gain political and financial concessions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Taliban has not yet officially commented on his reported detention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Observers say the move signals that the Taliban leadership in Kandahar is unwilling to act against the TTP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is not the first time the Taliban has detained or moved to detain senior members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Abbas Stanikzai, a senior Taliban figure, fled the country after criticizing the group\u2019s policies on women\u2019s and girls\u2019 education amid fears he would soon be arrested.
