{"id":36252,"date":"2025-11-21T08:28:44","date_gmt":"2025-11-21T03:58:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/deeyartelevision.com\/en\/?p=36252"},"modified":"2025-11-30T12:42:37","modified_gmt":"2025-11-30T08:12:37","slug":"%d8%ae%d8%a8%d8%b1%da%af%d8%b2%d8%a7%d8%b1%db%8c-%d9%81%d8%b1%d8%a7%d9%86%d8%b3%d9%87-%d9%82%db%8c%d9%85%d8%aa-%d8%a7%d9%86%da%af%d9%88%d8%b1-%d8%af%d8%b1-%d9%be%d8%b4%d8%a7%d9%88%d8%b1-%da%86%d9%87","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/deeyartelevision.com\/en\/36252\/","title":{"rendered":"AFP: Grape Prices in Peshawar Have Quadrupled"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Agence France-Presse reports that after the Taliban ordered a halt to trade between Afghanistan and Pakistan, Afghan produce has become scarce in Peshawar\u2019s markets.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the report, the price of grapes in Peshawar has now quadrupled, while the price of tomatoes has more than doubled (200 Pakistani rupees per kilogram \/ 46 Afghanis).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Local officials in Herat say that since mid-October, trade with Iran and Turkmenistan has increased by 50\u201370 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Afghanistan\u2013Pakistan Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry warned on Monday about the economic fallout of recent developments and called on Pakistan\u2019s government to act immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tariq Farhadi, an economic analyst and former adviser to the International Monetary Fund, told AFP: \u201cAfghanistan produces so many fruits and vegetables that it cannot store them, because it lacks cold-storage facilities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He added that the only solution is to export these goods quickly to prevent spoilage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Farhadi, Iran\u2019s Chabahar port \u2014 the alternative to Pakistan\u2019s southern ports \u2014 is farther away, more expensive, and affected by U.S. sanctions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He recommended that the Taliban and Pakistan end their trade war, as both sides rely on each other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Farhadi stressed that Afghanistan needs Pakistan for sea access, while Islamabad needs Afghanistan to reach Central Asia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pakistan\u2019s Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif has previously said that keeping the border crossings closed to trade is necessary to prevent militants from infiltrating from Afghanistan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Earlier, Abdul Ghani Baradar instructed Afghan traders to seek alternatives to Pakistan and warned that if they faced problems there, the Taliban would not support them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the World Bank, in 2024, 45 percent of Afghanistan\u2019s exports went to Pakistan, more than 70 percent of which were perishable goods.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Agence France-Presse reports that after the Taliban ordered a halt to trade between Afghanistan and Pakistan, Afghan produce has become scarce in Peshawar\u2019s markets.
