If adopted, it would establish a body to collect evidence of serious human-rights violations in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>China\u2019s representative said that in recent years Afghanistan has seen stability, economic growth, and improvements in people\u2019s livelihoods. He added that security incidents have \u201csignificantly\u201d decreased and that these \u201cpositive developments\u201d deserve recognition and encouragement from the international community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the same time, he acknowledged that Afghanistan still faces serious challenges, including terrorist threats, the protection of women\u2019s and girls\u2019 rights, and the humanitarian situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>China expressed hope that Afghanistan will be able to strengthen the protection and support of women and other vulnerable groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The representative added that Beijing supports increased engagement and dialogue between the international community and the Taliban, in order to encourage the group to respond to global concerns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said China sees this approach as a means to help Afghanistan achieve development and ensure the protection of human rights.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>China opposed the European Union\u2019s draft resolution on Afghanistan at today\u2019s session of the UN Human Rights Council, arguing that the text fails to acknowledge \u201cprogress\u201d made in the country.
